Final Update from Alli Clark! 11.24.08

Friday, November 28th, 2008

hello everyone!! : ) i’m back! i finally arrived in New York this morning after 20 hours of long flights…so glad to be welcomed home to the good ole USA with 35 degree weather! ; ) — much better compared to the 100 degree weather i’ve been in the last 2 1/2 months! our flights went well and cathi and i made it safely with all our luggage. praise God! i’ll be in new york until tuesday (tomorrow) afternoon for de-brief at AIM (Africa Inland Mission) headquarters. i fly out at 4:05pm tuesday and get back to lovely IN at 9:55pm. woo hoo!!!

my last few days in Namibia went well. it was hard to say goodbye to the kids in my small discipleship group from church, the girls I’ve been hanging out with at rehoboth high school, and my team…but i did it and was nothing short of excited to come back home!! ; ) so many thoughts and feelings to work through, but that will come with time and prayer.

wanted to say THANK YOU to all of you for your many prayers, messages of encouragement, and never-ending desire to know how i am doing. such a blessing to know how much you care and that you love me. please know how deeply grateful i am for your faithfulness. you mean so much to me and will always have a special place in my heart. : ) I LOVE YOU!!!

love always,
alli : )

Update from Alli Clark in Africa 11.19.08

Wednesday, November 19th, 2008

hello everyone!!! : ) hope you are all doing GREAT!! i only have 4 more days in Namibia! i am quite excited to be coming back to the lovely Indiana! how are things with you? any exciting or interesting news? can’t wait to see you all soon!!

well, the end of last week went well. cathi and i went to the capital city, windhoek, on friday afternoon to prepare for departure of our safari to ethosha the next morning. we stayed with mick and suzanne rineer who are the AIM Namibia directors. (we did our orientation with them when we got here in september) so, our safari bus picked us up on saturday morning and we were on our way north to Etosha! our group consisted of 12 people and 2 guides – a variety of people from different countries in europe. we made a few stops along the way, but got there about 3:30 in the afternoon. we did a game drive before we went to our campsite. right away we saw lots of animals!! — zebra, giraffe, lions — and some African animals that are all related to the antelope family – springbok, impala, kudu, and oryx. we went to our campsite for the night and set up. cathi and i shared a tent. the camp had great bathrooms with showers, shops to buy snacks and drinks, a restaurant, a swimming pool, and a cool place to watch the sunset.  our guides cooked our food for us, and all of it was really tasty! we ate beef stroganoff, greek salad, squash, rice, bread, and veggie soup. — sounds like quite the camp food, huh!? : ) after dinner we went to the water hole that you can see at the campground. we saw some black rhinos!! went to sleep and woke up at 6am the next morning to eat breakfast, pack up camp, and get a start to our day. we drove around all morning looking for more animals. we saw lots of the same animals again and again, but still no elephants…we went to our evening camp site early in the afternoon because it looked like the rain was coming our way. we had a relaxing afternoon doing some looking at the shops, eating ice cream, dipping our toes in the cool pool, and just chatting with our group members. we enjoyed another evening meal together – braai food (barbeque). during the night it rained and i had to run outside in the rain to close our tent windows so we didn’t get soaked. we had our same morning routine and set out for our final game drive before we left the park. we were about to head out, then we saw our first elephants!! we drove around some more and saw lots more elephants and giraffes! it was great! : ) we left the park and headed on our way back south to windhoek. cathi and i caught a taxi bus home to rehoboth and finally arrived at 8pm on monday night. whew, what a trip!

this week has been good. i went to the hospital yesterday to play with the kids, and then to the hostel at the high school to hangout with those girls. i went to the soup kitchen this morning and have my last meeting with my small discipleship group this afternoon. we are having an ice cream party! i’m going to miss my 7 teens!! : ) i always look forward to seeing them and enjoy our group time. sad that i will have to leave them, but i pray that they will be in good hands and that God will continue to grow them!

well, i have a farewell dinner tonight with my host family. tomorrow evening the whole AIM team in rehoboth (11 people) are having a dessert and farewell for cathi and i. cathi and i will be heading out to windhoek on saturday morning to meet up with mick and suzanne for a de-brief session. then, on sunday afternoon we will be on our way to the airport and back to the US!! i’m pretty excited! : )

prayer requests:
- for “good”  goodbyes
- safe travel to new york and then home to indiana
- to know that God has used me here, even if there are not tangible/concrete changes because of me
- leading in what God has in store for me next! : )

thank you all for your continuous prayers and support! you have been such an encouragement and dear blessing to me! i pray that you are doing well and that you know what a difference and special part of my life each of you are! THANK YOU FOR EVERYTHING!! : )
love you all and can’t wait to see you soon! may God bless you all and your Thanksgiving holiday!

love always,
  alli  : )
